Thomson Reuters Partners with Workforce Opportunity Services to Launch Internship Program for African American and Latino Youth in Texas

CARROLLTON, Texas,-- Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS)—the leading non-profit organization geared towards aligning individuals from underrepresented groups with transformative career opportunities—is proud to announce that we have partnered with Thomson Reuters to launch an internship program designed for African American and Latino high school students in Carrollton, Texas.

According to a 2016 study released by Brookings, roughly 3 million youths— primarily African American and Latino—are neither in school or working due to the lack of job readiness resources and barriers to education. Thomson Reuters—a leading multinational mass media and information firm—has been dedicated to cultivating a culture of inclusion through various internal initiatives. Through the internship program—which is modeled after WOS' "In the Community" initiative—participants will have the opportunity to develop their soft skills and technical skills while learning how to navigate a corporate environment; ultimately equipping them with the tools needed to pursue a post-secondary education and eventually a successful career. WOS will design and develop the curriculum and facilitate recruitment and training for the program. Students who are selected will attend workshops surrounding the following topics:

Business writing essentials

Time management and goal setting

Critical thinking and decision making

Effective online job search and interviewing techniques

Professionalism in the workplace

Following the training phase, students will be selected for paid internships at Thomson Reuters where they will work on capstone projects.

"We're thrilled to partner with WOS to implement this internship program at Thomson Reuters. A major step towards creating more diverse and inclusive workplaces is giving individuals from underserved communities and underrepresented groups a seat at the table," said Linda Hassan, Head, Diversity & Inclusion – Americas Corporate Responsibility & Inclusion, Thomson Reuters "Through this program, we hope to level the playing field for high school students from underserved communities by providing them with access to job readiness workshops and mentorship so that they can build a solid foundation for their futures. We're excited about playing a role in molding the leaders of tomorrow."
