Anthem's Brenda Burke Propels Continuous Dialogue Regarding Supplier Diversity

Encouraging continuous dialogue about the value of supplier diversity at all levels of the business is the foundation of Brenda Burke's success as Staff Vice President - Supplier Diversity at Anthem. Under her leadership, Burke has defined the value supplier diversity brings to the business. In doing so, it creates an awareness for all associates. Results include securing increased revenue, positive public perception, brand recognition, enhanced community relations, and subject matter expertise. Her philosophy is to "Begin, Create, Engage" discussion throughout Anthem. This approach promotes and develops champions of diversity and partners who enable the continuous messaging.

Under Burke’s leadership, Anthem has successfully increased spend with diverse suppliers year-over-year since the inception of Anthem’s supplier diversity program in 2006. Burke is committed to not just working with, but “partnering” with procurement. This partnership is a tremendous asset to supplier diversity.

In addition to the direct spend with diverse suppliers, Burke is also proud of the strong and consistent Tier II program. Anthem also includes supplier diversity language in all of its contracts, and supplier diversity goals are included in performance plans within the procurement organization. Best practices are benchmarked in order to maintain forward progress.
