Michael Harris Brings Supplier Diversity into Continental's Growth Strategy

Continental North America has undergone many changes over the past few years. Michael Harris was challenged with the opportunity to successfully grow the organization’s Supplier Diversity Program during a period of corporate growth and organizational change.

As the Supplier Diversity Manager, he developed and implemented a Strategic Plan for Supplier Diversity, created an executive steering committee to support the plan, and partners with major customers like GM, Nissan, and Toyota to promote diversity and inclusion activities. Michael is an expert change agent, successfully navigating within a complex corporate landscape to promote and grow the company’s Supplier Diversity Program.

Michael names a number of success factors that led to a strong Supplier Diversity Program. He implemented many of NMSDC best practices in supplier diversity: including engagement of executive management in diversity events and establishing a continuous improvement plan for the program. Michael established the business case securing resources to develop and launch an online registration system, while creating a robust database to locate new, qualified suppliers for sourcing opportunities.

Michael has also developed an internal communication strategy that includes quarterly newsletters, a Supplier Diversity page on Continental’s Corporate website and implementing a recognition program for Supplier Diversity Advocate of the Year.
