UPMC’s George Robinson II Enhances Strategic Execution of Supplier Diversity

George Robinson II is the Director of Supplier Diversity & Inclusion for the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Under his leadership, Supplier Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) performance was exceptional during a difficult pandemic year that was also marked by employee discussions on social justice. UPMC procured more from diverse certified business suppliers in 2020 than ever before. For 2021, where UPMC celebrated 25 years of the SDI program’s existence, he produced an internal marketing effort including a series of monthly videos featuring UPMC and UPMC Health Plan executives alongside diverse suppliers who have partnered with SDI over 25 years, and quarterly employee education touchpoints focused on SDI program integration in daily activities of the UPMC workforce.

The videos are released to UPMC’s 92,000+ employees, introducing SDI to UPMC’s expansive workforce. Externally, they have led to a measurable increase in new diverse supplier opportunities. George also expanded the SDI Business Education and Development program across organizational domestic geographies including New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The result has created deeper community connections to the customer base UPMC serves through its 40 academic, community, and specialty hospitals, 800 doctor’s offices and outpatient sites and more than 4-million-member Insurance Services Division.
