As the Chief Procurement and Real Estate Officer at UPS, Jose Turkienicz led the transformation of Global Procurement, evolving the function from a contract administration focus to becoming a trusted strategic advisor for business units and functions. He increased the capability of buyers, built new support functions like strategic sourcing, and relaunched Supplier Diversity. Jose became the board’s new chairman at NMSDC and is leading a modernization effort to increase the organization’s impact on economic equity.
To capture long-term value, Jose has focused on digital transformation and improving the capabilities of the procurement team. He has been instrumental in engaging the organization in Supplier Diversity by making finding and engaging diverse suppliers a part of the procurement team members onboarding training, completing a series of short videos on supplier diversity, increasing visibility in bid activity, and establishing metrics and goals. Jose partnered across the organization to impact social and economic equity and expected his team to do the same. The result has been cross-functional initiatives like the creation of the Logistics Launchpad at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs. He builds teams based on trust and empowerment.
