Kim Ribeiro is the Head of Diversity & Patient Inclusion at AbbVie. She leads a team working to design more inclusive clinical trials that will enable equitable access to underrepresented populations of investigator sites and patients into clinical trials. She uses an incremental intervention approach to make foundational improvements. Under Kim’s leadership, a framework to assess a study design's inclusiveness and a systematic method to define enrollment goals were developed. She also developed a new investigator pathway for AbbVie to define a clear roadmap for the onboarding and support of the next generation of clinical sites that leverages legacy clinical sites as mentors.
Currently, Kim is identifying opportunities to integrate AI and ML tools into operations to improve data collection efficiency and analysis. She cautions that AI tools free up team members to focus on building and sustaining relationships and acting on insights, but a human lens must always be applied to ensure historical data inequities are not overlooked. Her team’s work is tied to the organization’s R&D priorities, and she develops targeted plans to proactively reach previously untapped patient populations.
