Kimberly Bertz Develops Sustained DEI Change Strategy at Wells Fargo

Kimberly Bertz, Head of DEI Strategy and Employee Affairs for Wells Fargo & Company, builds structured and repeatable ways to drive and measure progress to create and support engaged employees in an inclusive workplace. Kimberly often hears how the commitment to DEI changes lives through the 10 Employee Resource Networks which represent membership of over 130,000. The ERNs enable employees to build community, grow their careers through networking and mentoring connections, join volunteer events, and gain visibility. To support all employees, Kimberly conducted a comprehensive analysis of workforce demographics and employee listening sessions, set specific priorities, and develops strong partnerships throughout the enterprise and externally. In 2023, the theme of “Belonging” was selected, as the north star and goal of DEI work.

Kimberly relies on foundational change methodologies for analyzing, organizing, and leading change work. She is clear on the “why” for any change and shares how it will influence a business or impact individuals. Communication is key, so Kimberly believes having a business case and implementation plan are critical to ensure the change process makes sense and everyone knows the strategy's what, when, why, and with whom. Audience segmentation, job impact analysis, “stop-start-continue,” and thoughtful learning and training are crucial steps taken.
