In her role leading the global supplier diversity team at Dell, Ying McGuire has helped to double the company’s spend with small, minority and women suppliers in less than four years to $2.5 billion in 2008. Over the last two years, McGuire has transformed Dell’s supplier diversity program from a domestic initiative to a global strategy. Its global strategy helps well performing US based diverse suppliers expand overseas to mirror Dell’s global sourcing strategy. It also supports underutilized businesses in countries where the company has a significant customer base. Dell is also looking at opening up new domestic opportunities such as green initiatives and new markets in which diverse suppliers can participate.

A native of China, McGuire was instrumental in establishing Minority Supplier Development China (MSD China), the country’s first national supplier diversity organization, as well as participating in the NMSDC China Committee, which is spearheading this historic effort.

One of Dell’s greatest achievements this year was becoming the newest Billion Dollar Roundtable member. Under McGuire’s watch, the company was also recognized for the first time as a top corporation for women-owned businesses by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
