The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is the nation’s largest nonfederal public power organization with 17 generating facilities and over 1,400 circuit miles of transmission lines. The Supplier Diversity Program within the NYPA was established in 1983. As the Director of Supplier Diversity within the NYPA Debra J. White is responsible for ensuring that the aims of the program are followed and year on year spend on Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) continues to increase.
NYPA gives great importance to supplier diversity in its procurement of goods and services for its statewide operations, which is directly reflected in the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on MWBE firms. While the current difficult economic times have meant that some companies have not maintained their commitments towards diversity, at NYPA under Debra’s leadership, the supplier diversity program has seen continuous growth, regularly surpassing state-mandated goals.
