Now, head of supplier diversity in global procurement at BNY Mellon, Claire Scanlon launched the company’s supplier development program in 1994 and has nurtured it ever since. The Program serves two purposes: promoting the use of diverse suppliers across the enterprise and promoting the financial viability of minority-, women-, veteran- and GLBT-owned companies. BNY Mellon gives Claire due credit for the program’s success, which has built BNY Mellon’s reputation for partnering with other corporations, state and city agencies, and supplier diversity organizations to provide a venue for diverse supplier training, development, networking and capacity building.
Claire is a leader who is willing to listen to what diverse suppliers have to say and connects the dots too by providing training and other assistance needed to succeed. She encourages business owners to pool resources and form alliances and partnerships so they can bring a robust and comprehensive package of products and services to the company. Claire also works internally to engage employees in developing relationships with diverse suppliers.
