Under Claudia Muñoz-Nájar’s leadership as corporate responsibility and supplier diversity manager at United Technologies, the company spent $930 million with minority- and women-owned businesses in 2009, or 10.4 percent of its domestic spend, up from 9.8 percent in 2008. Claudia is responsible for integrating supplier diversity into the way UTC does business and for ensuring diverse suppliers get access to UTC’s purchasing process.

Muñoz-Nájar chairs UTC’s Supplier Diversity Council where Carrier, Hamilton Sundstrand, Otis, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, UTC Fire and Security, UTC Power and United Technologies Research Center come together every month to advance diverse supplier development within UTC. She is a board member on the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council. She is also on the advisory board for GNEMSDC BusinessLINC, a mentor-protégé program for diverse businesses in Connecticut.

Muñoz-Nájar has hosted workshop sessions at the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s annual conferences. She participates in the NMSDC’s program manager training in Chicago each year and ensures that UTC provides a grant to the GNEMSDC to fund its suppliers to attend the Tuck Executive Education Programs at Dartmouth and also sponsors suppliers to attend the NMSDC AMEP Program.
