Building a new department during a time of internal restructure and change is always difficult, but this is a challenge that Gleatha Glispie has successfully surmounted. In fact, Gleatha has not only created the Supplier Diversity Team within Walgreens but has made it an integral part of Walgreens’ purchasing decisions, and supplier diversity spend continues to increase annually by over 50 percent year on year, since 2006.

Walgreens is currently in the midst of launching two new supplier diversity programs to further grow and enhance the process of diversity procurement. One of the new initiatives – Community Corner – is a business to consumer concept that identifies and markets products as produced by a specific diversity classification and markets the product to the direct target. The second initiative – Power of Alignment – is a business to business program that requires Walgreens strategic majority suppliers to support and align with our supplier diversity efforts. These two programs support the financial growth of diversity suppliers at Walgreens.
