Janice B. Williams-Hopkins is the program manager of supplier diversity at USPS after 37 years at the company. Under her leadership, she increased small business participation by 4.5 percent to 39.05 percent in 2009 and exerted influence on over $13 billion in spend last year.
Through her efforts, USPS exceeded all of its goals in 2009 to increase small, minority- and women-owned business participation, resulting in minority-owned business participation reaching 4.8 percent, an increase of 1.3 percent, and women-owned businesses reaching 9.02 percent, an increase of 2.01 percent of the general base.
Williams-Hopkins instituted 5 percent subcontract sampling reviews for compliance, resulting in a 40 percent increase in the number of suppliers in compliance. Through collaboration with supplier and trade organizations, after reaching an audience of over 35,000 suppliers, Williams-Hopkins and her team responded to over 37,000 inquiries regarding doing business with the USPS in 2009.
