As manager of MWBE programs for the Port Authority of NY & NJ’s World Trade Center construction department, Robin Murray has strived to ensure the successful participation of MWBEs in all rebuilding efforts at the World Trade Center site. Since taking over her position in 2007, MWBEs have won more than $500 million in WTC-related contracts.
Murray attributes the success of MWBEs at the WTC site to the Port Authority’s inclusive policies, monitoring and tracking efforts as well as support services offered to these firms once they receive a contract. Murray actively engages and meets regularly with the construction managers working at the site to ensure they are on track to meeting their MWBE participation goals. In addition, she also mandates that they hold regular outreach events and workshops to keep the MWBE community abreast of prequalification and bidding opportunities.
