As Otis Elevator’s supplier diversity manager, Theresa Farmer is also a member of United Technologies’ Supplier Diversity Council. In 2009, Farmer lobbied UTC to sponsor Travertine as one of two suppliers to attend the Minority Business Executive Programs at the Tuck Executive Education at Dartmouth.

Through her efforts, Otis spent $44 million with minority and women-owned businesses last year, representing 9.1 percent of Otis’ domestic spend, rising frm 6.8 percent in 2008.

Farmer is also an active leader in UTC’s Annual Diverse Business Exchange. Last year, over 225 people attended this event, including UTC’s chairman and CEO.

She meets regularly with suppliers interested in doing business with UTC and helps commodity managers identify opportunities. She works closely with the regional council to ensure that UTC supports local diverse and small businesses and is an active participant with the NMSDC.
