Turning a great idea into a successful business takes ambition, but far too often, women entrepreneurs lack access to mentorship, funding opportunities, and resources to launch and grow their businesses. To bridge this gap, the New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) hosted at William Paterson University is set to launch the Leads Mentoring Program on February 25, 2025, in partnership with M&T Bank.
The 16-week hybrid program will feature in-person sessions at William Paterson University’s Cotsakos College of Business along with virtual learning components, ensuring accessibility for entrepreneurs throughout New Jersey. Leads is open to entrepreneurs and senior leaders of businesses that have been in operation for a minimum of six months. The program will welcome at least 20 mentees in its first cohort, offering hands-on mentorship and direct access to financial experts.
Participants will receive no-cost one-on-one mentoring support from experts, along with workshops covering personal development, business topics such as business planning, marketing, and branding, strategic planning, access to capital, negotiation strategies, public speaking, and leadership.

"The Leads Mentoring Program is a powerful initiative to equip entrepreneurs with the tools and guidance needed to grow successful businesses," said Melissa Rosario, Regional Director of NJSBDC at William Paterson University. "Our partnership with M&T Bank underscores the importance of collaboration in driving economic progress and creating lasting opportunities for businesses."
Upon completing the program, all participants will receive a certificate of participation. Additionally, a pitch contest will be hosted, giving participants the opportunity to present their business ideas and compete for prizes funded by the program sponsor.
"M&T Bank is so proud to collaborate with the NJSBDC at William Paterson University to bring the Leads Mentoring Program to our local community," said Shannon K. Lazare, NJ Regional President at M&T Bank. "Through this program, we will educate entrepreneurs and provide them with the tools they need to grow their businesses and thrive."
Applications for the Leads Mentoring Program are now open. Entrepreneurs interested in applying can complete the Mentoring Program Interest Form.
