At Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Chattanooga, Supplier Diversity Assistant Manager Edkedsha Mathis worked on the successful 2013 launch of a supplier diversity annual and onboarding training program. This was one of many successes capped by surpassing the

10 percent minority spend target for the first time in 2013, reaching 12 percent total. Edkedsha relies on her “Three ‘A’ Concept” of Aim High, Apply Herself and Achieve Her Goals. Her philosophy is that credibility is built on results, and leaders achieve by “doing” and not just advising.

Edkedsha coordinates a number of best practices that include increasing supplier diversity program awareness within the organization, working to keep top leadership committed and informed about the importance of the program, mentoring suppliers, and training new and current suppliers. She works to build strategic partnerships and alliances with diverse suppliers. Edkedsha firmly believes it is important to provide diverse suppliers the tools needed to be successful as Volkswagen suppliers and community members. Tools include mentoring, training, networking, and one-on-one meetings with responsible buyers and business units.
